2-hour workshop with Sand Chang, PhD (they/them)
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapy approach that allows for and recognizes multiplicity of experience. It is a model that offers great potential for healing with people whose experiences do not align with dominant culture expectations or experience systemic marginalization.
In this 2-hour Zoom workshop, Dr. Sand Chang (they/them) will discuss the integration of IFS and 12-step recovery, including: 1) An overview of common dynamics with an internal system of parts involved in addictive processes and 12-step recovery; 2) How increased awareness of similarities and differences between IFS and 12 step can support an integrated recovery experience; 3) An introduction to a model for Self led 12-step recovery. This workshop will contain both didactic and experiential portions and is grounded in the lens of addictions as embedded in larger systems of oppression and cultural legacy burdens.
This workshop is for anyone who is interested in IFS applications with regards to the realms of addiction and recovery based on a 12-step recovery model. Participants do not have to identify as being in recovery. This workshop does not elevate 12-step approaches as better than other approaches to addiction recovery, but the focus will be on exploring 12-step from an IFS lens. For a brief overview of IFS, please watch this video.
This workshop will be led by Sand Chang, PhD (they/them), IFS Institute Assistant Trainer, Approved Consultant, and Level 3 Certified IFS therapist. Sand has lived experience with addiction and long-term recovery. Learn more about Sand here.
This course is not a substitute for the IFS Institute Level 1 training and it is not offered by the IFS Institute. It may be helpful for those who have taken Level 1 training. No prior experience with IFS is required. The workshop will be recorded and made available for viewing for 3 months (through October 18, 2024). Closed captioning available.
